TANGUAY, JEAN-PAUL - O.M.I..
Jean-Paul Tanguay was born on July 9, 1917 at Sainte Rosalie in the Province of Quebec. At the age of 13, he began his classical studies in the seminary at Chambly, then he continued his scholastic studies in Richelieu at Ottawa. In 1943 he was ordained a priest and the following year, he left for the Yukon.
From 1944 to 1952, Father Tanguay was a roving teacher in the First Nations communities the most isolated in the Yukon. Each season he went from one school to another. From 1952 to 1965, he remained a long time in Carmacks, then from 1966 to 1983, he was in the Teslin region where he worked in various schools and took part in community life. After 1984, he lived in Whitehorse and spent the major part of his editing and writing his memories.
