RICHES ET CELEBRES - (446 - ENGLISH)

RICHES ET CELEBRES - (446 - ENGLISH)

In January 1899, seven French-Canadian gold seekers went to the  “ La Presse” newspaper in Montreal to be photographed and to announce their return and their success. None of them had returned with less than $20,000 in their pockets.  All together they could have had a half-million dollars.
Two amongst them returned to the Yukon.  Georges Demers, from Saint Nicolas in the province of Quebec, came back in March 1899  and with some associates on July 28, 1899 founded  “The Yukon Telephone Syndicate” in  Dawson City.
Gustave L’Heureux from Saint Hyacinthe in Quebec, married Rose Saint-Arnaud in Dawson City in 1903,  and two years later had their son baptized there.  In 1910, he was the owner of the hotel and saloon in Granville in the Yukon.
Odilon Binet from Rivière-du-Loup, PQ and Fernand Renaud from Ontario, moved to California.  P. Honoré Doré, originally from Cap-Santé in the region of Quebec, settled in Quebec where he was the owner of the Eldorado Hotel and of two other businesses.  With his wife, Malvina Pouliot, they raised 15 children.  We don’t know what became of the two Quebecois Napoléon Dupras from Sainte-Hyacinthe and Georges Lamarre from Saint Polycarpe.
