Philippe J. Benoit Leblanc was born in Moncton, New Brunswick in December,1860.  First of all, this Acadian went to college in Moncton then finished his medicals studies in Detroit, Michigan.  He received his diploma in 1886 then practiced medicine in Detroit during ten years before going to the Klondike.  From 1896 to 1900, he lived in Dawson City where he was a doctor at St. Mary’s Hospital.
At this time of his life, P.J.B. Leblanc owned interests in quite a number of mining concessions and actively participated in the development of the city. For example, he was president of the Yukon Telephone Syndicate which had been formed by a group in Dawson City to link the small city to the rest of the world by telephone.
