GEORGES BESNER (316 ENGLISH)

BESNER, GEORGES
Son of Ferdinand Besner and of Adèle Simonneau, Georges Besner was born in Dawson City on April 18, 1906.  In 1921, Georges went to Mayo where he transported wood with his father.  That same year, Georges worked at the Royal Alexandra Hotel which was owned by Oscar Létourneau.  At the age of 17, he was hired by the Treadwell Yukon company.  During his years at the service of the Treadwell Yukon mining company, he loaded wagons, was a driller, a timber joiner and  managed to windlass on the Lucky Queen mining concession.  He also built two houses in Mayo.
Georges Besner and his wife, Annie Churchward gave their daughter the name of her grandmother, Adélia.  In1965, the Besners retired in British Columbia.  In 1990, they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary and Georges’ 84th birthday.
