GAUVIN, WILFRID (282 ENGLISH)

Born in Saint-Simon in the Province of Quebec,Wilfrid Gauvin arrived in the Yukon in 1895 with his brother, Alfred. They worked on the richest  creeks of the Klondike, the Miller and the Bonanza.  In less than three years, they possessed a fortune.  On May 20 1897, the Gauvin brothers found gold in a small ravine situated near the Eldorado River. Today the area of their discovery is called Gauvin Gulch.
Wilfrid was also owner of the mining concession N. 47 on the Bonanza Creek at Dawson City with Albert Garant.  On September 2 1899, Wilfrid Gauvin went to Odillon Cadieux’s funeral at Dawson City. He was still a minor in Dawson in1901.
In 1908. He held a store in Barlow on the road joining Dawson, Mayo and Whitehorse.  There, French cuisine was served. Towards 1913-1914, Gauvin and Hector Morrison mined the lodes or veins in this region.  Gauvin was still a minor in Mayo in 1923-1924.
