BEAULIEU, SÉVÉRIN (298 ENGLISH)

BEAULIEU, SÉVÉRIN  (298 ENGLISH)

Originally from Rimouski, PQ, Sévérin Beaulieu arrived early in the Klondike where he worked at various mining concessions.  After various years of heavy work, he owned a little fortune and could permit himself to return to his native city to see his wife and three kids.
In March 1899, he returned to the gold fields in the Yukon, but this time in charge of a group of men from the Lower Saint Laurent (le Bas Saint-Laurent).  These men were Adalbert Banville, Joram Beaulieu, Arthur Bourgoin, Bilon Carmel. Jean-Baptiste Grondin, Joseph Lévesque, Adhémar and Zéphirin Lavoie.
When he returned, Zéphirin brought one thousand pairs of leather boots which he expected to sell for $15.00 a pair at Dawson City.  In 1915, he became the owner of 160 acres (65 hectares) in the Yukon.  He lived in Granville and worked in the transportation industry as well as in mining.  During the years from, 1930 to 1940, he farmed land  situated in the area around Dawson City.  Sévérin Beaulieu died on October 2, 1948, aged 80 and was buried in the Pioneers’ Cemetery six days later.
