SABOURIN, FATHER JOSEPH ADONIAS (242-ENGLISH -- 241 franc)

SABOURIN, FATHER JOSEPH  ADONIAS (242 ENGLISH)
A bit of history: The 1632  St. Germain-en-Laye Treaty played an important role for many new settlers in New France.  This treaty which England and France signed, gave Canada to France. This took place during the reign of Charles 1 in England.  Champlain was to return to Canada, to Quebec, the city occupied by the brothers Kirke who had been there since 1629 and where there were about 50 French people.  Champlain sailed from Dieppe on March 23, 1633 with three ships and 200 passengers (France was encouraging immigration to Canada.)
The following year, on June 4, 1634 the contingent of immigrants arrived with ships and passengers at the port of Quebec.   Here is where those interested in genealogy may find their ancestor.  There were also many families from Poitou, France.
What follows is the genealogy of the Sabourins which was created by the Drouin Institute of Montreal.  In a census taken for Quebec in 1881, one finds that Jean Sabourin arrived in Canada around 1670; he was 40 years old; his wife was 38; they had six children, 4 acres( X.4 hectares for one acre)  of land and two cows.  From 1640 to 1700, 560 immigrants from the Poitou district of France arrived.
