LA PAROISSE DE DONNELLY (6) (166 ENGLISH -- 165 franc)

LA PAROISSE DE DONNELLY (6) (166 ENGLISH)

THE DONNELLY PARISH (6)

With her father aged more than 60 and handicapped and her young brother, Emile aged 16, one had to begin building.

The following month, Mrs. Leblanc came with her daughters, Marie-Rose and Laurentia (Grondin).

Father Jean-Marie Dréau, stationed in Grouard and replacing now and then, came to visit the Leblanc family and others.  It was a visit which Marie-Anne had really appreciated and Father Dréau told them that the following morning he would visit those who lived farther west. And that that evening he'd say an open-air mass.  He had with him his portable altar and he knew that all would go well.

Jean-Marie   son of Louis Dréau and Marie-Louise Formal
       Born 1882-02-08 Landaul Morbihan, France
Ord. Sac. 1909-07-11 by Bishop Cénez
       d. 1942-04-01 High Prairie, AB, in the Grouard dioc.

Father Dréau was very devoted to his people, so much so that he was nicknamed "The Father of the poor".  In 1931, he became ill and never recovered.

THE FIRST DAY AT PEAVINE

The Leblanc family decided to spend the night on Marie-Anne's farm.  She had a tent for shelter but the night was a very long one because the baby, regardless of remedies, did not seem to get better.  Marie-Anne rose early and gave all her attention to baby, Albert, but nothing seemed to help.  With time, the baby lost his strength.

Towards three o'clock in the afternoon, the little boy, Albert, was no more.  Télesphore spent some time with Marie-Anne then said to her, "The priests at the mission in Grouard had given me some planks to help build a shack.

I can build a small coffin this evening, and tomorrow I'll leave for Grouard."  Marie-Anne agreed with this since there was nothing else she could do_"
The next morning on their way, Télesphore met a Métis gentleman and he recognized him_he was from the Grouard mission.

The next morning on their way, Télesphore met a Métis gentleman and he recognized him _he was from the Grouard mission. When the Métis man got closer to Télesphore, he said that the priests at the mission had sent him to notify the Leblanc family that Ulric had also died the previous afternoon around three o'clock.  They spoke  together and cried together.  The Métis man said to Mr. Leblanc, "I'll go back right away to notify the priests at the mission."

Both children were buried in the Grouard cemetery, even in the same plot.

With all the work to be done, Marie-Anne did not have too much time to cry.  She began working immediately.
