______________________________________________________

Honoré was born at St-Isidore de Dorchester, Québec on November 8th, 1856 and on February 24, 1879 married Louise Chabot in the bride's church at St- Honoré de Beauce, Québec. Louise was born Auguste 13, 1862 . It is a known fact that during that era large families were the norm, Honoré and Louise had 13 children, eight of which were born in St-Pierre la Patrie, Québec

In 1895, Honoré and family decided to head west following the footsteps of his bdrother Napoléon and like him they settled at St-Alphonse, Manitoba. With 8 young months to feed, the older being only 13 years old. Honoré had his work cut out for him. Fortunately in those days, unlike today, they were imbued with the hard work ethic. Honoré was earning the princely sum of 25 cts per cord dof wood, which meant that the trees had to be felled and then cut into proper length for the cord and all done exclusively with an  axe...how they would have appreciated a chainsaw then.!

At St-Alphonse two more children were born

I suspect that 4 yrars of such hard work would crytalize in anyone's mind a detrmination to own one's homesteadl So it was, that in the summer of 1899, the old reliable horses hauled them further west to Dunrea. On November 19, 1900 Honor purchased  64 acres (Section 33, Twp 5, Rge 17), which was registered with Canada Northwest Land Co. under contract No. 2676. The cost?....$384.00 to be repaid at $50.00 per year. It should be noted that of the 64 acres only 16 were arable, the remainder being under the waters of Bone Lake. Although the land purchased was in the Bone Lake area, the family lived in the house (see photo)known as the paternal house located approx. 2 1/2 miles E.N.E. of the town of Dunrea (sec. 28, Twp 5, Rge. 17), This farm land was passed down from father to son, Joseph and again Joseph to his son Félicien.

On the old homestead were born three more children.

More than once this family moved with their meager belongings, always looking for better ways to make a decent living. From St-Pierre la Patric, QC to St. Alphonse, MB to Dunrea, MB to Quibell, ON, back to Dunrea, MB then to a small house in town near the church. Honoré was a Dunrea pioneer who passed away August 7th, 1940. It is difficult to fully comprehend and much less feel the hardships, which were the daily companion of those valorous ancestors. For them survival was a 24 hour-a-dau preoccupation. They, no doubt, never visualized nor could they have foreseen the high standard of living their grandchildren would enjoy someday.
